Infectious Neuroscience
Common microbes (viruses, bacteria and fungi) may play a significant role in neurodegeneration! Using multiple tools we possess and invent, we investigate the Pathogen Hypothesis, namely the role of microbes in contributing to Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, CTE and ALS.
Mapping Physiology and Connectivity in Diseased Brain
Many diseases of the nervous system are characterized by altered physiology. We create tools that investigate how brain activity changes at subcellular resolution, so we can understand how pathological molecular events reshape the entire network activity, and lead to cognitive decline.
Nano-Bio Interface for Brain Disease
Inorganic nanoparticles hold great promise to monitor and reverse pathology, since they are able to withstand physical conditions that proteins and nucleic acids cannot. However, getting them to the right place at the right time is very challenging. We are engineering nanoparticles to be controlled by their target cells.
