Science fiction stories always inspired Michael to imagine what kinds of problems can be solved through the efforts of research and engineering. Learning about the history of science only validated that inspiration. Knowing what massive hurtles we've cleared in the past gives him hope for what we can achieve.

Michael is using AAVs to express soma-targeted opsins in an effort to restore vision in cases of retinal degeneration.
